Suspected sockpuppets


Both are users engaged mainly with template editing. Alarbus registered around the date for One Ton's last edit. Both display a condescending and antagonistic attitude towards other editors. ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 14:19, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree they their edits are clearly divided between non-overlapping topics, which is a problem for showing behavioral similarity of course.

  • The evidence is a little borderline sketchy/FISHING-y, really. However, I do see serial socking which may be borderline WP:SCRUTINY here, and I've no idea who the sock master is, if any. Ok, the following are   Confirmed as being from the same editor/computer;
Other than the links above, I'm not seeing a whole lot of interaction. To avoid issues in future, I'd strongly recommend the editor stick to a single account - Alison ❤ 04:11, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The IP happened to run into a dispute about template colors with an editor that Alarbus was in a similar dispute with less than a week ago. I block the IP and Alarbus logs on the first time today and goes straight to the IPs talkpage, simulating a conversation with the IP. This seems like classic deceptive use of multiple accounts, with the sharpening circumstance that Alarbus were clearly targeting specific editors for harrassment. C/U evidence would cinch the case even though it's pretty clear cut already. ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 03:02, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 11 Truthkeeper88 (talk · contribs) and Modernist (talk · contribs) create [article] and in the process [this template] which 186.73.132.154 promptly reverts. The IP then follows modernist to various templates reverting his edits over a minor color issue. Modernist suspects that the user is Alarbus, who is known to have a grudge against Truthkeeper88 and has a record of editwarring over template colors - he posts to my talkpage. I block the IP at 02.33 and at 02:36 Alarbus makes his first edit in 6 hours to the IP's talkpage. ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 03:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alarbus (talk · contribs) is   Unrelated to the IP mentioned above, for a number of different reasons. The IP, by the way, traces to Cable & Wireless, Panama but doesn't appear to be an open proxy, from what I can see. There are no other accounts behind the IP, from what I can see - Alison ❤ 04:08, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Identical editing styles, and edit summaries

User:Tycho Magnetic Anomaly-1/common.js closely mirrors User:Alarbus/common.js

I'm not certain what is supposed to be done in this situation. Although there is no contributions overlap or obvious abuse, there was a strong recommendation to stick to one account at the last sockpuppet investigation. Hmm. There's a   Possible technical connection, but the behavior (edit summaries, topics) is close enough to make me think they're connected. TNXMan 14:06, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any other evidence aside from the fact that they have the same common.js pages? I ask because the editing patterns and behaviors seem rather far off, at least from my perspective. --MuZemike 18:41, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect the similarity in edit summaries is as a result of a script in their common.js; it's not an unusual pattern, and I've seen several other editors with nearly identical summaries. Risker (talk) 22:50, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
